Europe's Next Greece?: Economic and Political Turmoil in Spain
Almost eight years after the beginning of the global economic crisis of 2008, Spain is dealing with ongoing challenges. The expected increasing unemployment and deficit reduction economic policies such as cuts in education, healthcare, and infrastructures have led to strong popular dissatisfaction with the political class. This last aspect has reflected in a congressional fragmentation, which made a government, almost a year after the December 2015 elections, impossible. The goal of this presentation is to explore the causes and consequences of the crisis of 2008, focusing not only on the economic aspects but also on the socio-political climate.
