The Project is excited to announce that we are seeking a Community Outreach Nurse to provide sexual health services and sexual health and harm reduction education to individuals with increased risk. This includes testing for HIV, STIs, and HCV, as well as prescribing PrEP, PEP, and/or doxyPEP. The Community Outreach Nurse will work across care teams to provide all clients with linkage to care services.
Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct HIV, STI and HCV testing and counseling services at the on-site clinic or community outreach settings where high-risk target populations congregate.
- Assess, diagnose, and provide treatment for certain STI’s and prescribe PrEP, PEP, and/or doxyPEP.
- Develop relevant STI curriculum that is engaging, interactive, and addresses the needs of the populations at highest risk
- Facilitate community-based events and educational presentations on sexual health and risk reduction in a way that is culturally competent and reduces the stigma associated with sexually transmitted infections.
- Provide harm reduction services, including access to safer use supplies and syringe service programs.
This full-time position is based at our office in Moline, Illinois. Frequent evening or weekend work is required. This position requires flexibility around time and availability. Working flexibly (some days of the week remotely) is available. This is a non-supervisory position. Upon hire, this position will be required to complete the Illinois and Iowa Risk-Based Testing Trainings and our in-house Phlebotomy Training.
Compensation:
Compensation starts at $28 per hour. The final offered salary is determined by years of professional and/or lived experience beyond the minimum requirement, with an additional 2.5% for those proficient in a second language relevant to the role. Our compensation structure is experience-centric and not contingent on education. As part of our commitment to pay equity, salaries are non-negotiable and include an annual cost of living increase.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
- Minimum of Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in IL
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, including community partners, social workers, and other healthcare providers, to support holistic care delivery and address patient needs comprehensively.
- Strong advocacy skills, with a focus on empowering patients and addressing social determinants of health that may impact patients' care and outcomes.
- Strong cultural awareness of people living with HIV/AIDS, men who have sex with men, communities of color, and people with substance use issues, and how this may affect or influence service delivery
- Experience conducting outreach, recruitment, or community organizing for at least one of the following groups: people living with HIV/AIDS, men who have sex with men, or communities of color.
- Desire and ability to engage in equity and inclusion initiatives and discussions in the workplace, including but not limited to engaging in training workshops, team and department meetings, and critical conversations for how The Project can better meet the needs of those we serve
- Strong written and verbal communication skills a must.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and comfort with learning other computer applications required.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR)
- Successfully complete all required training to conduct routine HIV and HCV testing and phlebotomy lab services, which include HIV epidemiology, risk reduction strategies, counseling techniques, phlebotomy, and testing technology training within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- RN license in Iowa
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Lived experience of systemic oppression and non-dominant cultures from Black, Indigenous, and other people of color; transgender, non-binary, and other LGBTQ+ people
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in workplace or community settings
- Previous professional or volunteer experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS and/or delivering structured, evidence-based interventions
- Previous experience conducting HIV/STI counseling and testing, including phlebotomy

- Current RN License in Illinois
