Accounting Coordinator

St. Ambrose University is seeking an experienced and motivated Accounting Coordinator to join our General Accounting team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for supporting the financial operations of a higher education institution.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Financial Transactions: Assist with the processing of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Payroll: Perform the payroll function for full and part-time staff and faculty, as well as students and prepares required payroll reporting and tax liabilities in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of accounts, including bank statements and internal accounts, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Reporting: Assist with financial reports and statements, ensuring timely and accurate submission to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with university policies, accounting principles, and federal/state regulations.
  • Audit Support: Assist in the preparation of documentation and schedules for internal and external audits.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain organized and accurate financial records and documentation for all transactions.
  • Communication: Collaborate with various departments to resolve accounting issues and provide support on financial matters.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or financial management, preferably in a higher education or non-profit environment.
  • Skills: Strong proficiency in accounting software and the ability to learn new software concepts, Microsoft Excel, and other financial tools.
  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and internal controls.
  • Abilities: Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with faculty, staff, and students.
