Our Physical Plant department plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing campus environment. We are seeking a skilled and reliable Groundskeeper to join our team and contribute to the upkeep of our facilities.

As a Groundskeeper at St. Ambrose you will be responsible for maintaining the university's outdoor spaces, including lawns, gardens, and pathways. This role ensures that the campus grounds are aesthetically pleasing, safe, and functional. The ideal candidate will have a passion for landscaping and horticulture, combined with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Perform routine maintenance of lawns, gardens, and landscaped areas.
  • Operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
  • Plant, prune, and fertilize trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • Maintain and repair irrigation systems and other landscape infrastructure.
  • Ensure pathways, parking lots, and other outdoor areas are clean and free of debris.
  • Monitor and address issues related to campus grounds, including pest control and soil health.
  • Assist in seasonal projects such as snow removal and leaf collection.
  • Provide support to building maintenance staff.
  • Collaborate with other facilities staff to support special events and university functions.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in groundskeeping or related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining landscaping equipment.
  • Ability withstand extremes in temperatures of cold and heat, be able to life 50lbs. repeatedly and 100lbs. occasionally. Position requires considerable amounts of time kneeling, standing, and shoveling repetitively.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer-focused attitude.
  • Must be able to acquire Iowa Pesticide Application within 12 months of hire to continue employment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate university vehicles as needed.
