Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: Position is an 11-month annual position commencing August 2024.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The College of Fine Arts and Communication seeks an individual to serve as Director of the Center for Performing Arts (CPA) and Head of the Arts Leadership program.
• This is an 11-month position serving as the inaugural director of the $119 million Center for Performing Arts (scheduled opening August 2025) and academic head of the Arts Leadership MFA program.
• The director shall Provide leadership and oversight for the CPA, including season planning, marketing and audience development, recruiting and development, oversee budgeting, and the day-to-day operations of the CPA.
• The director must champion a positive work culture, represent the college and university as necessary and advocate for the arts in the community and the region.
• The director will foster partnerships with other leading performing arts centers and national presenting and arts organizations as well as provide vision for the CPA's future.
• As head of the Arts Leadership program, the director will work to establish the program as one of the preeminent programs in arts leadership working with the CPA as a backdrop for training.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate degree in an area of arts specialization.
• Demonstrated significant arts management, presenting experience or an understanding and demonstrated support for cultural, community, and artistic diversity preferred.
• Proven strengths in public speaking, interpersonal relationships, technical writing, written communication, administration and management.
• Demonstrated experience with budgeting, diversity and inclusion, and leadership.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• MFA degree preferred in arts leadership/management or in an area of arts specialization.
• Prior experience managing performing arts facilities or organizations.
For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Communication, Music, Speech Pathology and Audiology, and Theatre and Dance; undergraduate programs in Art and Design and Broadcasting and Journalism, and a graduate program in Museum Studies. Other affiliated units include Tri-States Public Radio (NPR), the Bureau of Cultural Affairs (BCA), the University Art Gallery and the Performing Arts Society. In addition, COFAC offers a wide variety of concerts, theatre and dance productions, and art exhibits each year which feature students, guest artists, and faculty. Students studying for degrees from COFAC have the opportunity to perform or practice in their field of study whether it is in a musical ensemble or as a student clinician in the Speech and Hearing Clinic. Students in all majors and members of the community have the opportunity to experience the College's cultural events and gain a broad cultural background that fosters understanding and appreciation of the arts, which is an important part of the academic mission of Western Illinois University.
